One was a conference game, the other was a non-conference fray. One game pitted a pair of playoff hopefuls while the other matched squads that have already had their ticket punched to play meaningful November football. Here are the two players who stood out above the pack under the Saturday sun in Week Eight.

Antonio White – Summit Academy

A couple of weeks ago, Antonio White proved he was a stud on both sides of the ball with a touchdown reception and a pick six. Saturday he added scoring on special teams to his growing resume. White broke open a close game with a tremendous 87-yard kickoff return for a score to start the second ahlf, then later caught a 44-yard touchdown pass and scored on an 11-yard run as the visiting Summit Academy Knights kept their playoff hopes alive with a 52-33 Class 1-A Big 7 Conference win over the Northgate Flames.

Zack Pettit – West Greene

In a Class 1-A non-conference battle of playoff bound teams, West Greene trumped host Western Beaver thanks to a big play from a quarterback turned running back. WG quarterback Zack Pettit moved to running back when leading rusher Ben Jackson was banged up and left the game and the move paid off handsomely as Pettit dashed 56-yards for a fourth quarter score that was the difference in the Pioneers 20-14 victory over the Golden Beavers.
