Seton LaSalle boys soccer team advances in WPIAL playoffs

Notes, quotes and a few quick updates from around the Seton LaSalle High School campus:

• Seton LaSalle’s boys soccer team was near-flawless during the regular season.

The Rebels captured the Section 4-A championship with an 11-1 record, and finished 15-3 overall with 10 wins in 11 games leading into the WPIAL playoffs.

Seton LaSalle drew the No. 3 seed for the playoffs and defeated No. 14 Trinity Christian, 3-1, in the first round.

Senior midfielder Kellen Krebs, sophomore forward T.J. Cherry and sophomore midfielder Anthony Newman netted a goal apiece for the Rebels. The Rebels defeated No. 6 Winchester Thurston, 3-0, in the quarterfinals.

Senior Sam Reinhart is Seton’s starting goalkeeper.

• The girls soccer team also advanced to the WPIAL Class A quarterfinals thanks to a 3-1 first-round win over No. 13 Serra Catholic.

Sophomore forward/midfielder Mikaela Small scored twice and senior Vanessa Peretin, who can play forward, midfield or on defense, added one goal for the Rebels, the No. 4 seed.

Junior goalkeeper Rebecca Crawford made seven saves on eight shots for Seton.

The Rebels (10-5-2) dropped a 9-0 decision to Shady Side Academy in the quarterfinals.

• Kaiden Reamer, a sophomore kicking specialist on the football team, is a transfer student from Nebraska.

He also is listed as a midfielder/defender/goalkeeper for the Rebels’ section-winning soccer team.

“(Reamer) is a very good soccer player,” said Rob Carter, Seton LaSalle’s football coach.

• The girls volleyball team finished second with a 10-2 record in Section 4-2A this season.

Serra Catholic took first place followed by Seton LaSalle, Keystone Oaks (7-5) and Carlynton (6-6).

The Rebels drew the eighth seed for the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs and defeated No. 9 Southmoreland in the opening round.
