The Sewickley Academy boys lacrosse team was led in 2024 by freshman Nick Neavin, who was rewarded for his season-long efforts by being named first team all-section.

Neavin was complemented by freshmen Eli Stephan and Jake Donesec, among others. Stephan and Donesec were second team all-section selections.

There were no seniors listed on the 2024 roster. The 16-player squad included 10 freshmen and five sophomores. The Panthers’ oldest player was Caleb McAdams, the lone junior on the team.

Roig fills nets

Lucy Roig is a scoring machine on the lacrosse field.

Roig, a 5-foot-5 midfielder who will be a junior in 2024-25, has netted 138 goals to go along with 20 assists in her first two seasons on the Quaker Valley girls lacrosse team.

After starting her varsity career with 76 goals as a freshman, Roig tacked on 62 goals in her sophomore season.

“Lucy has been a huge asset to our team,” QV coach Laura Peery said. “She has an excellent lacrosse IQ and works extremely hard on her skills. The girls really feed off of Lucy’s energy on the field; when we are in tough games, they really look to her for motivation.

“She has been tremendous these past two years scoring goals and winning draw controls. We look forward to seeing what she can do in the next two years.”

Roig also has secured 76 ground balls, forced 48 turnovers and won 182 draw controls in her first two seasons with the Quakers.

SA athletes honored

Section 1-A all-stars in girls lacrosse this past season included the following athletes from Sewickley Academy: Libby Eannarino and Ashley Close on the first team, Claudia Kronk and Lauren Retzlaff on the second team and Kendall Sykes and Grace Jardini honorable mention.

Five seniors on this years team have moved on: Cait Donahue, Eannarino, Close, Kronk and Sykes.

Two Sewickley Academy softball players were named to the all-section team for 2024: Quincy Sirko, a junior pitcher, and Keira Church, a freshman shortstop. The Panthers competed in Section 1-A this spring.

A tip of the cap also goes to Sewickley Academy’s Herlynn Niepa, Abby Bojalad and Cooper D’Antonio for advancing to the WPIAL Class 2A track and field finals this year.

Niepa, a sophomore, competed in the 200-meter dash and high jump. Bojalad, a senior, ran in the 3,200. D’Antonio, a junior, advanced in the 800.
