High-scoring sisters
Did you know that Sewickley Academy’s high-energy junior Emma Eannarino is the younger sister of Libby Eannarino, who like Emma competed as a three-sport athlete for the Panthers?
Emma Eannarino led the girls basketball team in scoring last year before suffering a season-ending injury. She also led the girls soccer team offensively in 2025 with 33 goals from her forward position.
Eannarino gained some of her athletic instincts from her older sibling Libby, who was a team leader and district standout in girls basketball for two years at Sewickley after transferring from Upper St. Clair.
Libby currently is a sophomore at Vanderbilt after enjoying success with the Panthers as a three-sport athlete in soccer, basketball and lacrosse — also Emma’s three favorite sports.
Libby led the Sewickley girls basketball team in scoring for two seasons and was one of the district’s top scorers as a senior with a 21.5 ppg average. She competed in club lacrosse in college last year at the midfield/attack positions.
Several other players on this fall’s soccer team also compete in basketball for the Panthers. They include juniors Grace Jardini and Nalani Brayley, sophomore Renae Phillip-Knight and freshman Athena Ameredes.
Tall on talent
Height doesn’t make might in the Quaker Valley girls soccer program.
Senior midfielder Ari Bosh stands just 5-foot-2 while two other midfielders, juniors Rowan Wallace and Maddie Gatehouse are 5-foot and 5-1, respectively.
Eliza Rahm, a junior defender, is listed at 4-9 on the QV team roster.
Some of the taller girls who were integral players this season include senior defender Emma Currier (5-8), junior attacker Annabel Miko and sophomore attacker Lily Baker (both 5-7), sophomore D/MF Mia Duckstein (5-5) and sophomore goalkeeper Ava Hajok (5-6).
Winning tradition
The WPIAL football playoff schedule included a couple of matchups with teams that know how to win.
Four of the five programs with the most victories in league history — all with more than 700 victories — were paired off Nov. 7 in two games.
That included a Class 4A semifinal pitting WPIAL wins leader Aliquippa (797) against New Castle (769), the team with the third-most victories in league history. But also Jeannette (794), with the second-most wins, had a Class A quarterfinal against Clairton (748), which ranks fifth all-time.
Combined, the four programs also have won 55 district titles.
Winning on ice
Senior forward Max Modrovich had a hat trick and added an assist to lead Quaker Valley to a decisive 9-1 victory Nov. 17 over Meadville in a PIHL Class A hockey matchup.
Sophomore forward Matthias Lezama finished with two goals and three assists and senior forward Ben McHenry netted a goal and three assists for QV, which improved to 8-1 overall.
Charlie Pyle, a junior forward, senior forward Jace Vasbinder and Luke Koehler, a senior defenseman, rounded out the Quakers’ goal scoring. Pyle also had two assists as did senior forward Colin York.
Playoff victory
Sewickley Academy squeezed past Karns City, 2-1, Nov. 4 in the first round of the PIAA Class A girls soccer playoffs.
Emma Eannarino and senior forward Makenzie Dice were the stars of the game offensively for the Panthers with a goal apiece.
Defensively, juniors Grace Jardini and Josie Courtney, senior Bella Bellard and sophomore goalkeeper Gabby Edmunds stood out for Sewickley.
