Kwilai Karto was one of six seniors in the Quaker Valley girls track and field program this year that experienced the thrill of winning four consecutive WPIAL team championships.
“I am honored to have been a part of a team for the past four years that has accomplished so much athletically while also remaining dedicated and humble throughout the process,” Karto said. “Our coaches, specifically head coach Jared Jones, truly set the tone for each and every meet. I am so thankful for this season and very proud of the girls track team after our (WPIAL team) performance.
“We knew this year’s WPIAL championship meet would more competitive, and I am awed by how every girl on the team stepped up and ran with confidence while also cheering each other on.”
Karto specialized in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, 100 hurdles and relays for the Quakers.
She plans to continue her track and field career at Emory University near Atlanta.
Perfect 10
Quaker Valley became a 10-time WPIAL team champion in girls track and field by winning its fourth consecutive title in 2025.
The Quakers rank third all-time, trailing only Butler (14) and North Allegheny (13), and have won district titles in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
The QV girls captured the Section 3-2A crown with a 6-0 record and improved to 12-0 overall following the WPIAL team win. At the WPIAL finals, the Quakers won nine events, had four runner-up finishes and placed third four times.
One for the thumb
The Quaker Valley boys team became a five-time WPIAL track and field champion in 2025 and is tied for fifth all-time with Hempfield and Washington.
The Quakers reeled off a three-peat in 1995-1997, snapped a 27-year drought last year with their fourth title and added another championship in 2025.
QV won the Section 3-2A crown this year with a 6-0 record and improved to 12-0 overall with its WPIAL success. The Quakers won eight events, placed second seven times and tacked on seven third-place performances at the WPIAL team meet.
Girls lacrosse playoff run
Quaker Valley senior goalkeeper Emily Reiner achieved another career milestone in girls lacrosse May 14 in the WPIAL Class 2A quarterfinals.
Reiner made six saves — including the 600th of her career — to spark No. 7 seed Quaker Valley past Seton LaSalle, 16-3.
Junior midfielder Lucy Roig connected for six goals for the Quakers while freshman ATT/MF Kate Miller contributed four.
Juniors Mia Floro and Lily Millet and sophomore Anna Campbell added two goals each for QV, which improved to 10-4.
After a strong regular-season showing, Seton LaSalle ended up 15-2 overall.
Five days later, the Quakers were defeated by No. 3 Chartiers Valley, 10-8, in the WPIAL semifinal round.
Roig and junior midfielder Alexa Westwood accounted for five goals for QV, which rolled past No. 10 Indiana and No. 2 Seton LaSalle in the first two playoff rounds.
Roig, the team’s leading scorer since her freshman season, netted a hat trick against CV.
Boys lacrosse playoffs
In WPIAL Class 2A boys lacrosse first-round action, No. 12 Chartiers Valley defeated No. 5 Sewickley Academy, 7-4, and No. 7 Bethel Park outlasted No. 10 Quaker Valley, 12-10. First-round games took place May. 13.
Strong staff
Did you know that along with coach Bob Sirko, there were four assistants on the Sewickley Academy softball team in 2025?
Bradleigh Peterkin, Ron Frynkewicz, Jason Andrews and Todd Edmunds served as assistants for Sirko.
The Panthers qualified for the WPIAL Class A playoffs this spring.
