A total of 14 Sewickley Academy athletes were named all-section in lacrosse in 2025.

On the boys side, Section 2-2A all-stars included Jake Donesec, Max Soderstrom, Eli Gargani and Eli Stephan on the second team and Luca Peluso, Briggs Jamison and Jack and Matthew Bruno as honorable mention selections.

For the girls in Section 2-2A, Emma Eannarino and Grace Jardini received first-team nods, Brooke Busatto and Lauren Retzlaff were second-team honorees and Olivia Stefanik and Sofia DiCicco landed honorable mention status.

Eden rolls on

Eden Christian Academy defeated District 6 champion Homer-Center, 16-6, in the PIAA Class A baseball quarterfinals.

There were 19 walks issued by both teams and three batters hit by pitches in the five-inning contest played June 5 at Gateway on a brutally humid day.

Eden coach Mark Feldman was a bit puzzled by all the free passes tossed by the two clubs. When asked what possibly prompted the wildness, he didn’t have a precise answer.

“I wish I knew,” Feldman simply said.

All-star rosters set

The inaugural PA High School All-Star Game sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Baseball Coaches Association will be played June 22 at Medlar Field in State College.

This game will consist of senior all-stars from the East (Districts 1-2-3-11-12) opposing seniors from the West (Districts 4-5-6-7-8-9-10) in a nine-inning game.

The West roster will be coached by the staff of Mike Myers (Southern Columbia), Mike Kramer (Central Mountain), Sid Landsberry (Clearfield) and Dan Oliastro (Riverside).

All seniors (in the 2025 season) were nominated by their high school coaches who are members of the PSBCA and selected by a planning committee.

Track record set

North Catholic’s Seava Cresta and Daphne Flerl, along with Anna and Audra Lazzara, helped the Trojanettes establish a new WPIAL girls record in the 400-meter relay event this season with a time of 48.07 seconds – breaking the previous mark of 48.51 set by Quaker Valley in 2007.

The Quakers placed second behind North Catholic in 48.74; Greensburg Central Catholic took third in 48.95.

Two seniors, Kwilai Karto and Vanessa Pickett, and two sophomores, Evie Roselli and Rose Pocasangre, competed for QV in the 400 relay.

Panthers set marks

Three school records were broken by Sewickley Academy track and field athletes this season.

Amina Josephs reset the mark in the girls 200-meter dash with a time of 26.28 seconds and Herlynn Niepa established a new ceiling in the girls high jump event by clearing a height of 5 feet, 4 inches.

The boys 400-meter relay team, consisting of Quinton Gibbs-Green, Amare Spencer, Justin Prunzik and Chase D’Antonio, smashed the school record thanks to a 46.1 time.
