South Park’s Shelly Thropp next month will be just the second woman to be inducted into the Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame, joining Jodie Chmielewski of Pine-Richland.
Another longtime WPIAL girls soccer coach, Wayne Capra, also will be inducted Jan. 25 during the PSCA awards banquet at the Penn Harris Hotel in Harrisburg.
Thropp began coaching at Seton LaSalle before becoming a mainstay at South Park, where she won 346 games, 19 section titles, five WPIAL championships and a PIAA crown.
“I’m incredibly proud to receive this award. But I cannot accept it without recognizing all the wonderful and talented players that I coached for so many years,” Thropp said in a news release. “The players, my coaching staff, the parents, and the South Park School District dedicated countless hours to the journey, and for each and every one of them, I am truly grateful.”
Capra had a record of 213-18 across coaching stints at Upper St. Clair and South Fayette.
