Track and field athletes in Western Pennsylvania haven't had much luck with weather conditions so far this spring.

They have had to deal with rain, snow, wind and frigid temperatures at dual meets, at least those that weren't postponed.

On Saturday, dozens of area teams finally got a chance to display their talents on a pristine afternoon for running, jumping and throwing at the annual Tri-State Track and Field Coaches Association meet at West Mifflin.

Six athletes claimed a pair of gold medals in individual events.

On the boys' side, Penn Hills' Alex Trower won the 100 (10.87 seconds) and 200 (21.79). New Castle's Le'Shawn Huff finished first in the 800 (2:00.09) and 1,600 (4:27.19).

Gateway's Courtney Jackson won the long jump (21 feet, 9.5 inches) and triple jump (43-11.25).

And, South Fayette's Sam Mastro finished first in the discus (166-0) and shot put (50-1).

In the girls' competition, Upper St. Clair's Savannah Shaw took first in the 1,600 (5:02.14) and 3,200 (11:19.96), and South Park's Maura Huwalt won the shot put (40-9) and discus (140-10). She also took third in the javelin (135-0).

Butler won the boys team title with 62 points, with Baldwin (46) and South Fayette (46) tied for second.

Butler also won the girls team title with 95 points, ahead of Mt. Lebanon (79) and South Fayette (53.5).
