South Fayette is prepared to make Marty Spieler the school’s next football coach, pending board approval Tuesday night.

Spieler is listed as the recommended candidate on the school board agenda. He spent this past season as an assistant under coach Joe Rossi, who resigned in November after 17 seasons with the Lions.

The school board meets at 7:30 p.m.

Before joining South Fayette’s staff, Spieler worked three seasons as a Mt. Lebanon assistant from 2020-22 under coach Bob Palko. A Woodland Hills graduate, Spieler previously had stints coaching college football at Allegheny, Cincinnati, Buffalo, Florida A&M and Missouri State.

This would be his first head coaching job.

He’d take over for Rossi, who won four WPIAL titles and two state championships at South Fayette. The Lions went 4-6 last season.
