It’s been 34 years since a WPIAL boys soccer team won three straight district championships.
A pair of teams have a chance to three-peat this season.
South Park (17-1) and Bentworth (17-0) were awarded No. 1 seeds in the WPIAL playoffs, the Eagles in Class 2A and the Bearcats in Class A.
Quaker Valley was the last to win three consecutive titles, from 1991-93.
The South Fayette girls (14-1-1) also are aiming for a third straight title. The Lions are the No. 2 seed in Class 3A.
Peters Township and South Park are the No. 1 seeds in the boys and girls brackets — the Indians boys (13-0-1) and defending champion girls (13-2-2) in 4A and the South Park girls (17-0) in 2A.
The Hampton boys (14-2-2) are the top seed in 3A.
The other girls No. 1 seeds are Fox Chapel (14-1-1) in 3A and Sewickley Academy (15-1) in Class A.
The top four seeds in boys and girls Class 4A have first-round byes.
Higher seeds will host first round games and, if they win, quarterfinals.
The semifinals will be at neutral sites.
Two preliminary games will open the postseason Thursday. First-round games begin Saturday, Monday and Tuesday.
The WPIAL finals will be Oct. 30-Nov. 1 at Highmark Stadium.
