Running for 4,000 career yards isn't as rare as it used to be. Forty-seven players have done it in WPIAL history, and 40 of them have reached the mark since 1990. It was Semifinals Friday around District 7. 16 teams entered Friday's action with dreams of playing at the big house next Saturday dancing in their heads, however those dreams only became reality for eight of those football teams. A first time champion was crowned in the PSAC and three more teams from that conference await the NCAA Division II Selection Show Sunday afternoon to see if they are post-season bound. The Parkway Conference in Class AAA and the Eastern Conference in Class A were both 4-0 in WPIAL first-round football playoff games last week. That is impressive, but not unheard of in the WPIAL. It's the final week of the regular season and many of the district teams will be putting away the helmets after Saturday's finale. But for some, Division II playoff hopes are on the line.
