Steel Valley cornerback Amonte Strothers, who didn’t take up football until his junior season, announced Tuesday his commitment to Delaware.

The 6-foot-3, 170-pound senior listed FBS offers from Purdue, Syracuse, Kent State, Toledo and Miami (Ohio).

Strothers, who also played wide receiver, had 21 receptions for 638 yards and 13 total touchdowns this season for the WPIAL Class 2A runner-up. He was named first-team all-conference for both offense and defense.

He also earned all-conference honors a year ago as a defensive starter for Steel Valley’s team that mercy ruled every opponent on its way to a state title.
