Strong WPIAL showing sends Sewickley Academy freshman golfer to states

Sewickley Academy’s Trey Susa has enjoyed an outstanding freshman season on the links.
Susa tied for third place at the WPIAL Class 2A boys golf tournament Sept. 30 at Valley Brook Country Club.
After carding a first-round 76 score Sept. 22 at Hill Crest Country Club, Susa finished with a 1-over 73 in the championship round at Valley Brook.
The Sewickley freshman made 13 pars, two birdies and three bogeys in the championship round.
Susa tied for third with Neshannock junior Rocco Bautti, who also shot rounds of 76-73, and advanced to the PIAA finals Oct. 20 at Penn State.
Eden Christian Academy senior Jackson Bremmer also qualified for the Class 2A boys state championship by tying for 16th place at the WPIAL event.
Bremmer shot rounds of 83-78 to end up tied with Bishop Canevin junior Jamin Brock.
The top 18 finishers at the WPIAL boys finals advanced to the PIAA tournament in 2A.
The top nine golfers in the WPIAL Class 2A girls tournament advanced to the PIAA finals, meaning Eden Christian’s Pearl Lundgren and QV’s Makenna Kamnikar made it.
Lundgren, a senior, finished fourth at the district event with scores of 87-81 at Valley Brook Country Club and Sewickley Heights Golf Club.
Kamnikar shot rounds of 87-88 to secure seventh place at WPIALs. The QV senior had back-to-back birdies on the front nine in the championship round.
QV sophomores Addy Davis and Joseph Kamnikar, Sewickley Academy seniors Niko Frazzini and Billy Pietragallo also qualified for the WPIAL boys golf finals as did Eden Christian junior Luca Natale.
Sewickley Academy’s boys golf team ended up third in Section 9-2A behind co-champions Quaker Valley and North Catholic, who split decisions to both go 9-1.
The Panthers lost twice to QV and NC while sweeping Aquinas Academy, Eden Christian and Hopewell in section play to finish 6-4.
Susa, Frazzini, sophomore Charlie Scally and Pietragallo represented Sewickley at the Section 9-2A qualifier Sept. 15 at Rolling Acres.
QV golfers at the sectional event were seniors Will Newlin and Ryan Dusch and sophomores Ty Stofko, Kamnikar and Davis.
Bremmer, Natale and sophomore Kyle Fowler represented Eden Christian.
