2015 National Letter of Intent Day – Division I-A Football Players from WPIAL

Here are the seniors from the WPIAL or Pittsburgh City League who have signed to make their verbal commitments to Division I-A colleges. High school seniors could not sign a binding letter of intent until Wednesday, February 4th. Pine-Richland quarterback Ben DiNucci and South Fayette’s Brett Brumbaugh are prolific passers whose senior seasons have been very much alike in terms of statistics and team success. DiNucci and Brumbaugh are also alike in the MSA Sports staff eyes. They are both players of the year. The MSA Sports staff found it impossible to separate the two in terms of accomplishments this season. So, the two have been selected co-Players of the Year. DiNucci and Brumbaugh also lead the MSA Sports’ Elite 11. The all-star team is made up of the top 11 players in the WPIAL, regardless of position. Welcome to Week 10 of the high school football season. Chick’s Picks attended the wedding of a dear friend last weekend. The lavish affair featured dinner entertainment by a celebrity musician. Awestruck by his performance, Chick’s Picks was determined to find an opportunity in this intimate setting to personally applaud the star. As guests began to mingle after dinner, Chick’s Picks spotted the celebrity packing up his equipment and headed his way. Before she could get out a formal introduction, though, the celebrity interrupted, “Wow, is that really you Chick’s Picks? You’re my idol! While the high school football playoffs are Primetime, that would make the three-week Stretch Run that wraps up the regular season the...Twilight? Whatever you want to call it, there seems each game has more on the line, thus to get to the big stage, you have to come up big in the 'dress rehearsals'. If Braydon Toy isn’t the smallest quarterback in the WPIAL, he ranks down there with the tiny guys. But you will find big statistics in this little Toy. Toy is only 5 feet 6 inches tall, but has been gigantic for the Kittanning Wildcats. He became the starter only last season and has started 16 games. But he went over 4,000 yards offense last week. Toy now has 4,116 yards. This season, he has completed 64 of 106 passes for 1,198 yards and also rushed for 473 yards on 60 carries. He has helped Kittanning to a 4-2 record. A year ago, Toy helped Kittanning to its first undefeated regular season since the 1970s. He finished 102 of 138 for 1,629 yards. Neither players or coaches can complain about the weather in the first four weeks of this season as Mother Nature has cooperated very nicely. And the turned toward huge offensive numbers continued around fields in Southwestern Pennsylvania on the fourth Friday of the WPIAL football season. Thus it makes our job that much tougher with so many young men who deserve post-game kudos, only a few can receive our top ten tip of the cap. Welcome to Week 4 of the high school football season. Throughout the first two weeks of the season, Chick’s Picks had seen remarkable scores posted by Clairton—70-0 over California and 86-0 over Wilkinsburg. Despite heavy criticism from the peanut gallery that the Bears were running up the score, opposing coaches did not seem to share that opinion. So, Chick’s Picks decided to head out to Westmoreland County last Friday night to bear witness as Clairton took on Greensburg Central Catholic.WPIAL Friday Night HighLights for 9/12

After a couple of humid and warm Friday nights to kick off the 2014 season, cool air prevailed in Week Three making it feel more like football weather. With concerns of water breaks and cramps behind them, many players relaxed and let their talents take over with some huge efforts on Friday night. They haven’t exactly beaten world-class competition, but Norwin is still 2-0. After tonight, the Knights could be in a spot where they haven’t been in 15 years. Norwin plays at Seneca Valley in a non-conference game. While Seneca Valley (0-2) is trying to find itself, Norwin is trying to go 3-0 for the first time in 15 years. The last time Norwin was 3-0 was 1999, one of the greatest seasons in Norwin history. Dual-threat quarterbacks seem to be all the rage in football these days – and it shows on the Elite 11 team. The Elite 11 is made up of the top 11 players in the WPIAL, regardless of position. It is picked by the MSA Sports staff. This year’s team includes three quarterbacks who are dual-threats. In other words, they are excellent runners as well as passers. The dual-threat QBs are Seneca Valley’s T.J. Holl, Quaker Valley’s Dane Jackson and Ringgold’s Nico Law. But the Elite 11 is not without a traditional dropback QB. South Fayette’s Brett Brumbaugh might end up the most prolific passer in WPIAL history. Overall, nine seniors and two juniors are on the team. Here is a look at the MSA Elite 11.
