Beaver County Christian Ends Ambridge’s WPIAL AA Volleyball Run

The narrative was all too familiar before the championship of boys’ volleyball in Class AA. For the fifth straight season and for the eighth time in nine years, the Bridgers of Ambridge were in the house competing for a championship. They had won seven titles in the previous eight seasons, going 7-7 in their opportunities. But all good stories in sports come to an end eventually, and when the final volley was complete at Baldwin High School on Friday night, a new champion was crowned. A champion, in the Eagles of Beaver County Christian, whose name probably isn’t all too familiar for followers of the WPIAL. It was the first appearance for the team that hails from a school that has 33 male students enrolled in a volleyball championship game.Hometown Girls Volleyball Recap – South Side Rams – 09/22/2015

The South Side girls volleyball team hosted Beaver County Christian in a Class-A non-conference match on Monday night. The Lady Rams used a strong start and the powerful arm of their senior leader to win the match 3-1 by scores of 25-16, 25-13, 23-25, 25-23. South Side (2-2, 3-2) never trailed in either of the opening two sets of the match. The Lady Rams controlled the game, forcing the Lady Eagles into the hitting miscues. Every time BCCS would close the gap, South Side would respond with two or three quick points to widen the gap. The balanced attack was led by senior Toni Yacoviello, who provided five kills in each of the first two sets.
Sewickley Academy Boys & Shady Side Academy Girls Win WPIAL Class A Soccer Titles

Coming in to the WPIAL Class A soccer championships, both the boys and girls top-seeds made it through the first three rounds and into the championship finals Saturday at Highmark Stadium. Sewickley Academy was able to follow through and win the boys title where Greensburg Central Catholic could not, getting upset by Shady Side Academy in the girls finals. Moon’s running game went from Colaianni to Cole, and now everything is cool with the Tigers on the ground.Moon is in the WPIAL football playoffs this season for the first time since 2006, and one of the main reasons for the turnaround is Cole Blake, a senior running back who is the fifth-leading rusher in the WPIAL heading into the playoffs.Blake has made a name for himself, rushing for 1,457 yards. He set a school record with 342 yards in one game. But Blake’s story is interesting in that he only got a chance to be the featured back this year because of an injury.
