Welcome to Week 1 of the high school football season. The offseason passed by rather quickly for Chick’s Picks. Shortly after last season’s championship games, she began training to run her first 5K. This, after rehabbing from ankle surgery, Chick’s Picks thought would be a lofty goal to set for herself.That chilly March morning arrived, and accomplish that goal she did. It certainly was not pretty, but nonetheless, Chick’s Picks crossed the finish line. In the 2011-12 off season, there was some talk that the Parkway Conference would be broken up, but when the dust settled, that was not the case. The conference was voted one of the top fifteen conferences in the nation by ESPN and here's why: The last three WPIAL Class AAA champions have come from the Parkway, West Allegheny in 2009, Central Valley in 2010 and Montour last season. Since 1990, thirteen WPIAL Champions have been crowned out of the Parkway. If anything the conference was made stronger by the addition of Chartiers Valley into the fold. Seven of the nine teams in the conference finished with winning records in the 2011 regular season, with three of the four qualifiers winning at least one playoff game.

Two players who led Blackhawk to a WPIAL championship, two players taken in the Major League Baseball draft, and a pitcher who was close to untouchable lead the 2012 MSA Sports Diamond Studs all-star team.The team is made up of the top 10 players in the WPIAL and is selected by the MSA Sports staff. The two Blackhawk players are Brenday McKay and Matt Emge.The two drafted players are Neshannock’s John Sansone and Valley’s Zarley Zalewski.The stud pitcher who rarely gave up a run was Thomas Jefferson’s Greg Schneider.Here is a look at the MSA Sports Diamond Studs team.PIAA Baseball Semifinals Recaps for Monday

Two weeks ago, Blackhawk was celebrating a WPIAL Class AAA championship while Riverside was trying to oversome a stinging loss to arch-rival Ellwood City in the WPIAL Class AA title game. One Semifinals Monday in the state baseball playoffs, it was the Panthers celebrating a return trip to the PIAA finals while the Cougars are left to wrap up a memorable season one game shy of the finals. here are recaps from both games.PIAA CLASS AAA SEMIFINALS:
