The WPIAL held its individual wrestling sectionals in Class AA on Saturday to set the field for the district championships this upcoming weekend. Over the last 35 years, the WPIAL Class A football scene has been dominated by two conferences, the Big 7 and the Eastern Conference. From 1975 through 2006, the districts champion came from one of those two conferences. A pair of legends hung up the whistle this off season with George Smith of McKeesport and Guy Montecalvo of Canon-McMillan calling it quits...for now. Meanwhile, a couple of big name coaches have resurfaced in Jim Rankin and Art Tragesser while Ray Braszo is going back to the future.
