Shady Side Academy and Sewickley Academy Pairs Golden in 2011 WPIAL Boys Doubles Tennis

In the end, it was worth the wait for the two top-seeds. More than a week after playing the first three rounds of the 2011 WPIAL Boys Doubles Tennis Playoffs, top-seeds Vivek Nimgaokar and Justin Hunt of Shady Side Academy won the Class AAA title while Will Kleeman and Daniel Martchek of Sewickley Academy won gold in Class AA Monday afternoon at Keystone Oaks High School.

Mt. Lebanon Nets AAA Gold While Sewickley Academy Wins 8th Straight WPIAL Boys AA Team Tennis Title

For the first time in 17 years, the Mount Lebanon boys tennis team is celebrating gold. The top-seed Blue Devils edged two-time defending champion Shady Side Academy in a match started Thursday and finished Friday due to rain. It is Mount Lebanon's record 18th WPIAL boys tennis title, but first since 1994.

WPIAL Softball – 2011 Season Preview

The 2011 WPIAL softball season is set to begin on Friday, March 25th. Two district teams are defending STATE champions in Mount Lebanon and Chartiers-Houston, while the Blue Devils, Montour Spartans, Valley Vikings and Vincentian Academy Royals now begin defense of their WPIAL titles, even though the Vikings have moved up from Class AA to Class AAA.

Mount Lebanon, Montour, Greensburg CC & Lincoln Park All Settle for Silver in PIAA Boys Basketball Playoffs

There is plenty of silver to be found in Southwestern Pennsylvania following the state basketball championships at Penn State University. Mount Lebanon in AAAA, Montour in AAA, Greensburg Central Catholic in AA and Lincoln Park in A all lost in the state finals in Happy Valley, three of them fell to District 12 powers while Mount Lebanon lost to the District 1 champs.

Scholastic Notebook – 03/11/2011

One top high school basketball player has returned from a concussion and another important player might be returning. West Mifflin senior C.J. Hester, who averages 18 points a game, played in a PIAA Class AAA play-in game Tuesday night and was a key factor in the Titans' 66-36 victory against Bradford. Hester had 17 points and 15 rebounds.

PIHL Penguin Cup Playoff Recaps for Wednesday, March 9th

While ten of eleven higher seeds moved on to the Final Four on Quarterfinals Wednesday in the PIHL playoffs, most of them did so with a mighty struggle, including one overtime game and one double overtime thriller. Plus the one upset as the 3rd-seed in Class A is eliminated.
