The WPIAL football playoffs start Friday night and never before has the postseason picture looked so perfect.Although the WPIAL started crowning football champions in 1914, the league didn’t have playoff games until 1971. A total of 12 teams head into this year’s playoffs with perfect records. That is the most EVER since the WPIAL started playoff games.

2011 WPIAL FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS 10/31

The matchups have been set and the countdown begins for the ceremonial ribbon to be cut for the opening of the Highway to Heinz. The WPIAL Playoffs kick off with 32 opening round games coming up Friday, November 4th as we whittle 64 hopeful teams down to four golden champions.

Saturday’s Scholastic Starz – 10/09/2011

There were only five WPIAL football games played on the second Saturday of October, but four of them were key conference contests from Class AAAA, Class AA and Class A. Playing in weather that was better suited for baseball, here are the players that stepped up to the plate and went yard as we ground rule double your pleasure as the curtain falls on Week Six.

Saturday’s Scholastic Starz – 10/02/2011

During the first four weeks of Saturday high school football in the WPIAL, the schedule has been light and the top performances have been spread out like a modern day offense. However the busiest Saturday of the season to date with a total of eight WPIAL games produced more than a few stars of a gloomy, chilly, wet...and dare I say perfect day for football.

CTK 2011 – WPIAL 7:00pm Kickoffs
There are 126 schools in the WPIAL that field a high school football team. While a majority still begin at 7:30pm, 38 of them now kickoff their home games at 7:00pm, including the enire Class AAA Keystone Conference. Two WPIAL baseball teams head into the Quarterfinals with undefeated records. Considering the past, it would be highly unusual if one of them wins the WPIAL title. Norwin is 17-0 and plays in the Class AAAA Quarterfinals Monday against Bethel Park. Elizabeth Forward is 18-0 and plays in the Class AAA Quarterfinals Monday against either Greensburg Salem or Central Valley.
