It had been two decades since one of the WPIAL Class AAAA's top football programs had won a district championship. However that drought ended when North Allegheny captured gold by beating the 2009 champion Woodland Hills Wolverines in the WPIAL finals at Heinz Field. Mount Lebanon and Hampton won the very first WPIAL boys lacrosse championships two years ago in 2009. After missing out last season, the gold rush continued for both the Blue Devils and Talbots in 2011.
