We have reached the midway point of the 2012 version of the Battle to the Bluff with the completion of the Quarterfinals Weekend in the WPIAL Basketball Playoffs with all eight top-seeds still alive andf with only Shaler girls in Class AAAA having been eliminated with seven defending champs moving on to Round Three. The WPIAL Board of Control Tuesday approved the new basketball alignments for both the boys and girls for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 high school winter sports seasons. When the WPIAL announces playoff brackets at a meeting every February, the league also hands out plaques to section champions. For the first time ever, Bentworth might double team the WPIAL for the championship plaques. Things have been good for Bentworth basketball this season. Mike Decker is a computer education teacher at Woodland Hills High School. As basketball coach, he is part sociology teacher also. Decker is in his second season as Woodland Hills’ coach and has orchestrated one of the more impressive turnarounds in WPIAL basketball. Two incredible golden streaks continued Saturday at Chartiers Valley High School as Canon-McMillan and Burrell continued their district mat mastery.
