Fox Chapel notebook: Shady Side Academy grad shines in Olympic debut

Gwyneth Philips didn’t waste her first opportunity to start in net for the Team USA hockey team. Philips, a Shady Side Academy graduate and native of Athens, Ohio, made 20 saves to help the Americans blank Switzerland during group play at the Milan Cortina Olympics.

Focused Fox Chapel boys get job done in section to reach playoff goal

Fox Chapel girls basketball coach Marty Matvey believes guard Lyla Jablon won’t wilt at the first sign of trouble. During her four seasons with the Foxes, she has been challenged by Matvey to be ready for the tough moments.
