Has there ever been a WPIAL football regular season that was so perfect as this one? Probably not. Fourteen teams go into the final night of the regular season with undefeated records. Two of them play (West Allegheny at Central Valley). That means there could be 13 teams that finish the regular season with perfect records. That would be the most in the WPIAL in a long time. Possibly ever. Checking records going back 37 years, there has never been a WPIAL season with 13 undefeated and untied teams (there used to no overtime in WPIAL football).Scholastic Notebook – 09/05/2014

It is a recurring storyline at Indiana High School. The Stapletons are staples of the football team. It has been the story in recent years at Indiana, and it is again this season. Two of the four Stapleton brothers had big impacts on the Little Indians’ opening-night upset victory against Mars last Friday. Riley Stapleton, a 6-5 senior receiver, caught seven passes for 95 yards and scored a touchdown. After losing their 2013 season opener this past Friday 81-0, Geibel High School will forfeit their Week Two game on Friday at Beth-Center.This marks the second year in a row the Gators will forfeit their second game against the Tri-County South powerhouse Bulldogs. Youth was served last year in the Tri-County South Conference. Of the 24 positions for first-team all-conference last year, 16 were filled by sophomores. Those players are a year older, which means the Tri-County South could be a little stronger. Last year was the first of the “new” Tri-County South. That basically meant Monessen no longer was in the conference. The Tri-County South did not fare well in the postsesaon as all four teams lost in the first round. Will the conference get to taste any postseason success this year? When Demetrious Cox graduated from Jeannette in June and headed to Michigan State, the Jayhawks’ football team lost a big-time player. But Jeannette hasn’t lost the ability to make big plays. Take a look at the first two weeks of the season and what Jeannette has done in the big-play department is on the surreal side. Granted, the competition has been weak (Charleroi and Southmoreland), but Jeannette’s big-play ability has been magnificent. The Jayhawks are acting like a bunch of “big” shots. In two games, Jeannette (2-0) has scored 14 touchdowns (three passing, 10 running and one on a punt return), and the average length of those touchdowns is 36.7 yards. Beth-Center has joined Frazier with 1-0 records even though the 2012 football season hasn't even started. Three days before the high school football throughout the state kicks off, the Commodores have been awarded a forfeit victory over Geibel for Week 1 and the Bulldogs have a forfeit win over the Gators for Week 2 after preseason injuries hit an already small Gators roster hard.Geibel has had it's share of hard time over the last decade and a half, including the WPIAL's longest losing streak until West Shamokin broke that record last year.CTK 2012 – WPIAL A Tri-County South Conference Preview

Like most of the other conferences around the WPIAL, the Tri-County South underwent a few changes with the new district realignment for the next two football seasons. it is still a nine-team conference with seven teams returning, but the two changes are significant.Gone are two playoff teams from a year ago, the Monessen Greyhounds and the California Trojans. in 2011, the two combined to go 12-4 in conference and finish in a tie for second place. Entering into the TCS world are the Avella Eagles and the Bentworth Bearcats, the bottom two teams in the Black Hills Conference a year ago who were a combined 1-17 overall in 2011.
