Quietly, the Greater Allegheny Conference in Class AAA has become a primetime postseason player...at least in the First Round. They are few and far between, but we have seen teams pull off perfect football seasons before in the WPIAL. However the new kids on the block in Class AAA went for perfection in a different way that has never been done before. One Season - One Championship. It was a tough state tournament showing for WPIAL tennis players in both the PIAA Singles and PIAA Doubles Boys Tennis Tournaments. The only district player to make it through the Quarterfinals was WPIAL Class AA Singles chamion D.J. Goldblum of Winchester Thurston.Its 2009 All Over Again as Mt. Mount Lebanon and Hampton won the very first WPIAL boys lacrosse championships two years ago in 2009. After missing out last season, the gold rush continued for both the Blue Devils and Talbots in 2011. The 2011 PIAA Boys Team Tennis Championships were WPIAL free Saturday afternoon at the Hershey Racquet Club in Hershey. In the end, it was worth the wait for the two top-seeds. More than a week after playing the first three rounds of the 2011 WPIAL Boys Doubles Tennis Playoffs, top-seeds Vivek Nimgaokar and Justin Hunt of Shady Side Academy won the Class AAA title while Will Kleeman and Daniel Martchek of Sewickley Academy won gold in Class AA Monday afternoon at Keystone Oaks High School.
