For one school, it was just another gold trophy to add to their recent run, for another, it's a title that has been a long time coming. North Allegheny beat section rival Seneca Valley in four games to capture a fifth consecutive WPIAL boys volleyball title by winning the Class AAA championship Friday evening at Chartiers Valley High School.Scholastic Notebook – 05/27/2011

After a year as runner-up, Riverside is back on top of the WPIAL Class AA Boys Team Track & Field hill. The Panthers beat out Washington, South Fayette and Freedom Thursday afternoon at West Mifflin High School to win a fourth WPIAL championship in the last five years. Meanwhile, Hempfield edged North Allegheny, Mount Lebanon and Baldwin to win the Class AAA title.Butler and Freeport are Golden in 2011 WPIAL Girls Track & Field Team Championships
The Butler girls track and field team are the golden girls...again! The Golden Tornado captured back-to-back WPIAL Girls Class AAA Team Track and Field crown by beating Hempfield, Norwin and Butler Thursday afternoon at West Mifflin High School. In the Class AA finals, Freeport took home the gold by beating out Mount Pleasant, Freedom and South Fayette.Schoalstic Notebook

India McCoy is bar hopping like few girls have in the history of the WPIAL. McCoy is only a sophomore at Ambridge, but she already has established herself as one of the best high jumpers in league history. The 2011 WPIAL softball season is set to begin on Friday, March 25th. Two district teams are defending STATE champions in Mount Lebanon and Chartiers-Houston, while the Blue Devils, Montour Spartans, Valley Vikings and Vincentian Academy Royals now begin defense of their WPIAL titles, even though the Vikings have moved up from Class AA to Class AAA.OC’s Smith, P-R’s Murslack, MtL’s Nappi and NA’s Kuremsky Win PIAA Class AAA Swimming and Diving Gold

After being blanked on Day One on Friday, Saturday turned out to be a golden day for four WPIAL swimmers at the 2011 PIAA Class AAA Swimming and Diving championships at Bucknell University. Oakland Catholic's Leah Smith set a record in the 500-yard freestyle while Kristen Murslack of Pine-Richland won gold in the 100-yard breaststroke.
