The Parkway Conference in Class AAA and the Eastern Conference in Class A were both 4-0 in WPIAL first-round football playoff games last week. That is impressive, but not unheard of in the WPIAL. The Planets capped off a perfect run through the WPIAL season with a 2-0 win over Beaver Saturday at Baldwin High School. Second seeded Mars ends its championship season at (22-0) and even though the Planets controlled the ball and most of the play against the Bobcats, it took a while for the games first goal to be tallied.Scholastic Notebook – 10/29/2010

When it comes to records, maybe its time to stop thinking about Rushel Shell in a WPIAL sense. Maybe its time to look at the entire state. Shell, Hopewells wonderful junior running back, ran for 193 yards against West Allegheny in a 34-31 overtime win last night. A rematch of the 2009 WPIAL Class AAA championship game with a playoff berth at stake in District 7, while District 8 features the team everybody is chasing in the standings. Finally, after six weeks of above normal temperatures on Friday night, there was a bite in the air as we kicked off the MSA Sports Stretch Run. Big games in all four classifications dotted the schedule and MASSIVE performances on the ground and through the air left little doubt that prime time playoff football is just around the corner. Even though three former WPIAL players are starting at Pitt and Penn State (Jonathan Baldwin, Mike Shanahan, Derek Moye), the WPIAL hasn't been known for producing many big-time receivers over the years.
