The conditions on Friday night were much better than they were a week ago for the district lid-lifters, allowing for more focus by the players and a lot more points scored by teams throughout the WPIAL. The Foothills has become the not-so-golden conference in Class AAAA. With North Allegheny ending the Northern Seven championship drought in 2010, attention turns to the Foothills Conference. It had been two decades since one of the WPIAL Class AAAA's top football programs had won a district championship. However that drought ended when North Allegheny captured gold by beating the 2009 champion Woodland Hills Wolverines in the WPIAL finals at Heinz Field. This year MSA Sports is debuting the "Sweet 16" Softball Program. 16 of the most successful WPIAL Girls Softball programs have committed to joining together to help promote and increase recognition for one of the most exciting interscholastic sports that we have in western Pennsylvania.
