Sixteen teams saw their dreams of WPIAL football gold and a trip to the North Show come to an end as they were forced to exit the Highway to Heinz on Quarterfinals Friday. That leaves 16 teams still in the hunt for a gridiron title thanks in large part to these following outstanding performances on a comfortable early November eve. One defending WPIAL champion cruised, one needed overtime for a dramatic come-from-behind win while another was ousted in Round Two. One team wins in the Quarterfinals for a 13th consecutive year while another wins in this, their very first season. Plus, all four top-seeds are still alive headed into the district Final Four. The Parkway Conference in Class AAA and the Eastern Conference in Class A were both 4-0 in WPIAL first-round football playoff games last week. That is impressive, but not unheard of in the WPIAL. Finally, after six weeks of above normal temperatures on Friday night, there was a bite in the air as we kicked off the MSA Sports Stretch Run.
