Running for 4,000 career yards isn't as rare as it used to be. Forty-seven players have done it in WPIAL history, and 40 of them have reached the mark since 1990. But when North Allegheny's Alex Papson reached 4,000 yards last week, it was a rare feat, at least when you consider the competition.

Pine-Richland, Freeport & Frazier Capture 2010 WPIAL Girls Volleyball Championships

A pair of schools are celebrating their first ever WPIAL girls volleyball championships after victories on Saturday at Franklin Regional High School. Frazier in Class A and Freeport in Class AA claimed inaugural hardwood gold while Pine-Richland won the Class AAA crown for the third time in school history and the Rams first title since 2005.

Ryan Gil and NA Teammates Golden in PIAA Cross-Country Championships

It was a golden Saturday for both Ryan Gil, who won the 2010 Boys Class AAA Individual cross-country race while his North Allegheny teammates finished first in the boys team standings at the Parkview Course in Hershey. Pine-Richland Wins Third WPIAL Girls Volleyball AAA Crown
Hats off to the WPIAL Girls Volleyball steering committee as they got all of the top two seeds playing for the Championships in all three classifications this season. This particular conflict featured two northern suburban schools that do not have an affinity for one another on the volleyball court.

MSA Sports Friday Night HighLights – Week Nine

There were players who put up bigger numbers on Friday none, but none that made more of an impact for their team than these players, whose clutch performance helped their teams clinch a ride on the Highway to Heinz.

When it comes to records, maybe its time to stop thinking about Rushel Shell in a WPIAL sense. Maybe its time to look at the entire state. Shell, Hopewells wonderful junior running back, ran for 193 yards against West Allegheny in a 34-31 overtime win last night. That gave him 6,358 yards for his career.

Even though three former WPIAL players are starting at Pitt and Penn State (Jonathan Baldwin, Mike Shanahan, Derek Moye), the WPIAL hasn't been known for producing many big-time receivers over the years. Maybe it's because having a receiver with a lot of catches doesn't equate to wins in the WPIAL Never has that notion been more true than this year.

WPIAL/City League Week 5 Thursday Football Scores

It was a bit of a soggy start to the Week Five weekend in the WPIAL and Pittsburgh City League on Thursday. While the spotlight shined on Class AAAA and the Northern Seven Conference in the WPIAL, the Pittsburgh City League featured a battle between two of the top three teams through four weeks.
