There is undoubtedly more passing in high school football these days. But after two weeks, could this be the year of runners in WPIAL football?While WPIAL football again has some impressive passers, the running statistics have been big through the first two weeks. Take a look:*It’s considered a nice night when a team has two 100-yard rushers in a game. It is extremely unusual when a team has two 200-yard rushers. But there have been two teams (Penn Hills and Steel Valley) that have had two 200-yard rushers in a game – and they did it on the same night (last Friday).*Penn Hills’ Billy Kisner has rushed for 200 yards in two consecutive games – and he’s a QUARTERBACK.District College Football Preview for Saturday, September 14th

Crossover play is the highlight this week in the district college football slate as the PSAC Eastern and Western Divisions square off. Robert Morris looks to win their second straight and W & J heads to meet a nationally ranked opponent.Here are previews of ALL the games, recaps will be posted on Sunday.Shippensburg (0-1) at Slippery Rock (1-0) 6pm on WLER 97.7-FM and the MSA Sports Network The Red Raiders were ranked in the top 10 to start the season but were shut out by then number 25 Shepherd last week. It was the first time the Red Raiders were blanked since 2008. Seneca Valley lost almost every offensive starter from a team that went 10-2 and averaged 37 points a game last season. But coach Don Holl didn’t have to look far and wide for something to jumpstart this year’s offense.He simply had to look across the family dinner table.Seneca Valley’s new quarterback is T.J. The 2013 district college football slate kicks off with a bang this weekend. 19 teams from the area start their season, while two others head to the field for the second time. Here are previews of all the games, including three to be played later tonight:(All games are on Saturday, except where noted)Slippery Rock at Northwood Noon on WLER 97.7-FM and the MSA Sports NetworkThe teams have not meet on the gridiron since 1992. Slippery Rock has won both meetings between the foes.The Rock was 6-5 in 2012 and finished 5-2 in the PSAC West. The curtain lifted on the First Friday of the 2013 WPIAL football season with plenty of tightness. Yeah, there was the pressure of playing conference games right out of the gates, but tight muscles and cramps were everywhere on a humid end to what has been a pleasant month of August. Over the past four seasons, four different teams have won the Interstate Conference championship. It was Washington last year, Jeannette in 2011, Greensburg Central Catholic in 2010 and Mount Pleasant in 2009. The race for the 2013 conference crown looks to be among those same four teams. All four have some firepower that could lead a team to the conference title. Washington made it to the WPIAL title game last year and has super running back Shai McKenzie. But the Little Prexies still have a lot of holes to fill. The leading rusher and leading passer in the WPIAL are back this season – and also lead the MSA Sports preseason Elite 11 team. The Elite 11 is a list of the top elite players in the WPIAL heading into the 2013 season. It is picked by the MSA Sports staff and players are selected regardless of position. The leading rusher returning from last year is Washington’s Shai McKenzie. The leading passer is South Fayette quarterback Brett Brumbaugh. Brumbaugh is the only junior on the preseason Elite 11. This year’s Elite 11 also includes three players (Mike Grimm, Malik Hooker and Chase Winovich) who already have made commitments to Division I colleges, as well as other players who are being heavily recruited.
