District College Football Preview for Saturday, October 13th

Week 7 of the College Football season continues with some good match ups this weekend. Conference play rolls on in the NEC, PSAC and PAC, along with the WVIAC and the NCAC.Here are previews of All the games, including 3 that can be heard right here on the Network:Slippery Rock(2-4) at Clarion(3-3)  1pm on WLER 97.7-FM and the MSA Sports Network Both teams are 1-2 in PSAC West divisional play. Slippery Rock leads the all-time series 47-23-3 and has won the last 6 meetings. SRU lost last week to IUP 33-18. The Rock has dropped 3 straight games.  RB Akeem Satterfield is 8th in the PSAC in rushing at 83 yards per game. Satterfield has scored just 4 touchdowns this season.

District College Football Recap for Saturday, October 6th

The weather turned cold on the opening weekend of October and wind conditions affected several games thruout the area. Several teams pulled out big wins as Cal and Mercyhurst stay on top of the PSAC West.Unfortunately the focus was on Crestview, Kentucky as the W & J Presidents took the field after one of their team was killed on Thursday.Here are recaps of all the games, with three heard here on the Network:IUP 33 - Slippery Rock 16 On Homecoming Day at George P. Miller Stadium, the Crimson Hawks pounded out 388 yards rushing and led 27-9 at the half to cruise to the win and remain in the chase for a division title. IUP ground out 29 first downs and held the football for over 41 minutes in the win.

We start this edition of College Preview with heavy hearts with word of the death of W & J running back Tim McNerney early Thursday morning. Police Investigating Death of W & J Football Player Thursday
Police in Washington are investigating the death of a Washington & Jefferson College football player early Thursday morning.21-year Tim McNerney was taken to the Washington Hospital emergency room, where he was pronounced dead at 4:42 am. McNerney was found at the corner of College and Maiden Streets.Washington Police Chief Robert Lemonds said police are treating the death as suspicious, more information will be released after an autopsy was performed. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the death is being treated as a homicide.

District College Football Recap for Saturday, September 29th

A busy week in district college football as the PSAC took a break from divisional games for crossover action, the PAC saw some wild finishes and Saint Francis and Duquesne met for the 99th time in the NEC.Here are recaps of all the games played Saturday:Kutztown 56 - Slippery Rock 49 SRU lost it's 2nd straight game, fumbling 5 times, which led to 28 Kutztown points and a victory for the Golden Bears at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium on Saturday night. QB Nigel Barksdale made his first career start and figured in on 5 Rock touchdowns in the loss. Kevin Morton returned to the Kutztown lineup and threw 4 touchdown passes, the Golden Bears led 42-21 at the half.
