It's a new season so an introduction may be needed. every Saturday during the high school football season, we look back at some of the top performances from the previous night...thus the HighLights aspect of this column. Welcome to Week 1 of the high school football season. The offseason passed by rather quickly for Chick’s Picks. Shortly after last season’s championship games, she began training to run her first 5K. This, after rehabbing from ankle surgery, Chick’s Picks thought would be a lofty goal to set for herself.That chilly March morning arrived, and accomplish that goal she did. It certainly was not pretty, but nonetheless, Chick’s Picks crossed the finish line. In the 2011-12 off season, there was some talk that the Parkway Conference would be broken up, but when the dust settled, that was not the case. The conference was voted one of the top fifteen conferences in the nation by ESPN and here's why: The last three WPIAL Class AAA champions have come from the Parkway, West Allegheny in 2009, Central Valley in 2010 and Montour last season. Since 1990, thirteen WPIAL Champions have been crowned out of the Parkway. If anything the conference was made stronger by the addition of Chartiers Valley into the fold. Seven of the nine teams in the conference finished with winning records in the 2011 regular season, with three of the four qualifiers winning at least one playoff game.39th Annual Baldwin Invitational Track & Field Results

It’s the right arm that brings Bill Stanley notoriety. But at the Baldwin Invitational, it was footwork that helped bring Stanley into the spotlight. Stanley, a senior at South Park High School, had one of the most unforgettable performances ever in a field event at the 39th annual Baldwin Invitational Friday. The event is one of the largest meets in the eastern part of the country and attracted more than 2,000 competitors from all over Western Pennsylvania. Stanley was the talk of the meet after throwing the javelin 234 feet, 9 inches to set a Baldwin Invitational record and also enhance his reputation as one of the best javelin throwers in the country.
