Five games made up the next-to-the-last Saturday high school football schedule in the WPIAL. While two potential playoff teams were involved, there was more Pride talk than Playoff talk when it came to the scholastic gridiron action on this third Saturday in October. Like most of the other conferences around the WPIAL, the Tri-County South underwent a few changes with the new district realignment for the next two football seasons. it is still a nine-team conference with seven teams returning, but the two changes are significant.Gone are two playoff teams from a year ago, the Monessen Greyhounds and the California Trojans. in 2011, the two combined to go 12-4 in conference and finish in a tie for second place. Entering into the TCS world are the Avella Eagles and the Bentworth Bearcats, the bottom two teams in the Black Hills Conference a year ago who were a combined 1-17 overall in 2011.Hempfield’s Nicole Metz on Target, Wins 2012 WPIAL Rifle Title

The girls ruled the day at the 2012 WPIAL Individual Rifle Championship Thursday afternoon at the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmens Club in Canonsburg. When the 'smoke' cleared, girls claimed the top ten spots, led by Hempfield's Nicole Metz.Metz, the runner-up a year ago, finished with a final total of 200-18x, one of five shooters to register the same score. Metz won the gold because she had six center shots while the other four had five center shots.Girls claiming the top ten spots was a first in WPIAL Individual Rifle history. Two incredible golden streaks continued Saturday at Chartiers Valley High School as Canon-McMillan and Burrell continued their district mat mastery.
