Woodland Hills’ Alonzo to Face Charges From Peters Twp Incident

The Washington County District Attorney's office announced Thursday afternoon they will prosecute 17-year old Shakim Alonzo of Woodland Hills High School after he punched Gabe Pritz of Peters Township High School during a WPIAL basketball playoff game Saturday.Pritz fell to the ground bleeding from his ear and later received 11 stitches.Alonzo will not be charged as an adult.The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette posted this statement from the Pritz family:Hempfield’s Nicole Metz on Target, Wins 2012 WPIAL Rifle Title

The girls ruled the day at the 2012 WPIAL Individual Rifle Championship Thursday afternoon at the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmens Club in Canonsburg. When the 'smoke' cleared, girls claimed the top ten spots, led by Hempfield's Nicole Metz.Metz, the runner-up a year ago, finished with a final total of 200-18x, one of five shooters to register the same score. Metz won the gold because she had six center shots while the other four had five center shots.Girls claiming the top ten spots was a first in WPIAL Individual Rifle history. For the first time in 14 years, Woodland Hills High School is celebrating a WPIAL Team Rifle Championship. Tuesday afternoon at the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen's Club in Canonsburg, the Wolverines edged second pace Hempfield to claim the schools third rifle title and first since 1998. Woody High's first championship was in 1992.Brendan Boyle, Colin Letson, Chuck Pantalone and Quinn Rouse all shot a 100-9x to lead the way for Woodland Hills, while Miranda Johnston and Mario Scaramouche shot a 100-8x.The Wolverines ' score of 800-65x was four better than runner-up Hempfield, which shot an 800-61x. Avella finished third with a score of 799-58x. The defending champion Trinity Hillers finished in fourth place.

Mike Decker is a computer education teacher at Woodland Hills High School. As basketball coach, he is part sociology teacher also. Decker is in his second season as Woodland Hills’ coach and has orchestrated one of the more impressive turnarounds in WPIAL basketball. Things have been relatively easy for the Montour boys basketball team so far. The Spartans are 6-0 and have outscored opponents, 73-44.But things are about to get a lot tougher for Montour, as the Spartans are about to embark on a week-long schedule that is probably tougher than any other team’s in the WPIAL.
