WPIAL boys volleyball season got underway Friday and Saturday with nonsection matches and early-season tournaments, and additional matches are scheduled throughout this week.

The Western PA Volleyball Coaches Association on Monday recognized teams for their opening efforts with the top 10 polls for Class 3A and 2A.

North Allegheny and Shaler maintained their No. 1 rankings in 3A and 2A, respectively.

Pine-Richland and Latrobe both rose in the Class 3A poll, and North Catholic and Seton LaSalle moved up the Class 2A poll.

Each week throughout the season, all 44 boys volleyball head coaches will have the opportunity to cast a ballot for the top-10 rankings and also nominate players for each classification’s players of the week.
