In the same school year, Thomas Burns won a state football title in Pennsylvania and now a state track title in Florida.

Burns, the brother of Steelers cornerback Artie Burns, won a 400 meters title Saturday at the Florida High School Athletic Association championship in Jacksonville. Burns attended Pine-Richland for the fall semester and won a PIAA football title with the Rams.

The Miami Northwestern senior won the 400 meters Saturday in 46.72 seconds, a time that ranks him 10th-fastest nationally this season, according to Milesplit.com.

He placed second in the 110 hurdles at 14.02 seconds.

Burns already owned the nation’s third-fastest time in the 300-meter hurdles (36.56 seconds) and won a Florida state title in that event last spring. But he didn’t run the 300 hurdles at the Florida state meet this season.

His school competes in the second-largest of four FHSAA classifications. The University of North Florida was host for the state meet.

Burns signed to run college track with Miami in November , and then transferred back to Florida in the winter.
