Thomas Jefferson claims Western Pa. Regional boys bowling title

Thomas Jefferson won three playoff matches Sunday afternoon to capture the Western Pennsylvania Regional boys bowling team title.

The Jaguars were the fifth seed after qualifying but then defeated Gateway, 2-0, in the quarterfinals; Greensburg Salem, 2-1, in the semifinals; and Plum, 2-0, in the finals to claim the championship. TJ bettered Plum with game scores of 213-150 and 245-136, in the championship match.

Plum defeated Hempfield, 2-1, in the quarterfinals and then beat Armstrong, 2-1, in the semifinals.

Greensburg Salem led after qualifying with a score of 4,324, followed by Armstrong (4,020), Hempfield (4,001), Gateway (3,985), Thomas Jefferson (3,792) and Plum (3,786). The top six teams advance to states March 14-15.

Qualifying included three regular games and three Baker sets.

On the individual side, New Castle’s Jeffrey Natale’s three-game series of 711 led the way, followed by Greensburg Salem’s Dylan Magliorino (703), Meadville/Cochranton’s Landon Plyler (683), Gateway’s Chase Owens (681) and Greensburg Salem’s Sam DeMine (673). All were named to the all-tournament team.
