Thomas Jefferson, Neshannock, Butler win PIAA competitive spirit titles

Neshannock and Butler added to their trophy cases while Thomas Jefferson outdueled a WPIAL rival for its first title at the PIAA competitive spirit championships Friday in Hershey.
Neshannock won the Class 2A Large Varsity division for the third straight year, posting a score of 80.87 to beat second-place Hickory (75.13).
Butler repeated as Coed division champion, winning the title for the third time overall. The Golden Tornado finished with a score of 84.33, besting McDowell (79.93).
Thomas Jefferson won the Class 3A Small Varsity division with a score of 88.50, finishing just ahead of two-time state champ South Fayette (87.10). Penn-Trafford finished fifth.
Norwin (fourth), Hempfield (fifth) and Seneca Valley (sixth) competed in the finals in the Class 3A Large Varsity division won by Cumberland Valley.
Hampton (seventh), Central Valley (eighth) and Ambridge (ninth) reached the finals in the Class 2A Small Varsity division won by Richland.
