Times, sites set for Friday’s WPIAL basketball quarterfinals

The opening round of the WPIAL boys and girls basketball playoffs is in the rearview mirror with three straight evenings of second round action ahead.

The district quarterfinals conclude Friday with boys Class 5A, boys 3A, girls 6A and girls 2A second round contests setting the stage for the WPIAL final four from Saturday through Tuesday.

Here are the sites and times for Quarterfinals Friday.

Boys 5A

No. 9 Shaler (14-9) vs. No. 1 Chartiers Valley (20-2) at Peters Township, 6 p.m.

No. 5 Gateway (16-7) vs. No. 4 Moon (19-3) at North Allegheny, 8 p.m.

No. 10 Hampton (14-7) vs. No. 15 Ringgold (15-9) at Peters Township, 7:30 p.m.

No. 6 Penn Hills (17-6) vs. No. 3 Thomas Jefferson (21-2) at Norwin, 7:30 p.m.

Boys 3A

No. 8 South Allegheny (14-8) vs. No. 1 Mohawk (22-1) at North Allegheny, 6:30 p.m.

No. 5 Southmoreland (15-8) vs. No. 13 Shady Side Academy (9-14) at Charleroi, 6 p.m.

No. 7 Seton LaSalle (18-5) vs. No. 2 Aliquippa (15-6) at South Fayette, 6 p.m.

No. 11 Ligonier Valley (13-10) vs. No. 3 South Park (19-3) at Charleroi, 7:30 p.m.

Girls 6A
