A couple of district baseball and softball teams that came up short of their goal of winning a WPIAL championship are trying to take advantage of a second chance at gold that the PIAA postseason offers.
The state playoffs are halfway through the four rounds with six baseball and six softball teams from District 7 still playing into the second week of June.
Those teams without WPIAL gold that remain alive are South Park and Eden Christian Academy baseball teams, along with Penn-Trafford, West Allegheny and Chartiers-Houston softball squads.
Meanwhile, the lucky seven district schools that are in the hunt for double gold from the district and state playoffs are Shaler, Indiana, Riverside and Freedom baseball and Hempfield, Neshannock and Union softball.
Indiana baseball and record-breaking Neshannock softball still sit at No. 1 in the latest Trib 10 power rankings with one week left in the season.
Here are the latest power rankings. Teams are listed with overall record and last week’s ranking. These weekly rankings have zero classification boundaries.
