Week 2 proved to be rough one for WPIAL teams that took home gold in 2022.
Pine-Richland (5A), Steel Valley (2A) and Union (A) all lost; however, the combined record of the teams that beat them — Penn Hills, Seton LaSalle and Cornell — is an impressive 8-1.
Two other winners a year ago, North Allegheny (6A) and Aliquippa (4A), were winners again and remain high in this week’s Trib 10 while Belle Vernon beat McKeesport in overtime in a battle of power-ranked schools in Week 2.
McKeesport remains in the rankings, slipping four spots, while Steel Valley drops out.
There are two head-to-head matchups between Trib 10 teams Friday.
No. 2 Central Catholic visits No. 7 Mt. Lebanon in a Class 6A clash of unbeaten teams while No. 3 Aliquippa hosts a power rankings newbie, No. 9 Montour, in a 4A Parkway Conference opener.
