Class 4A

Defending champion: Peters Township

Runner-up: Seneca Valley

PIAA qualifiers: Peters Township, Seneca Valley

Defending PIAA champion: Downingtown West

Team to beat: Peters Township has the makings of a repeat with all-state goalkeeper and TribLive HSSN player of the tear Molly Kubistek returning, along with All-WPIAL picks Taylor McCullough and Marina Hajnosz. Kubistek is a Cincinnati commit who had 14 shutouts in 21 games. The Indians finished 19-1-1 and registered 14 shutouts.

Others to watch: Seneca Valley, the runner-up and PIAA quarterfinalist, features all-state honoree Karly Majeski (10 goals), as well as All-WPIAL pick Ashlee Libby, and others. … Defender Natalia DiSora (18 goals), a Wake Forest commit, is back for Upper St. Clair, along with Sierra Dupre, Chloe Bird and goalie Cam Friday (Tampa commit). … Emma Schupansky and Kieran Shannon lead North Allegheny, a semifinal team. … Canon-McMillan also made the semis and has a talented sophomore in Sarah Coffman. … Mt. Lebanon narrowly lost to North Allegheny in the quarters after defeating Norwin on penalty kicks in the first round. … Don’t take your eye off of Pine-Richland and Latrobe. Annalyse Bauer of Latrobe is an Eastern Michigan commit.

Team to beat: South Fayette is primed to win a third straight championship after going 20-4 and reaching the state quarterfinals. Four All-WPIAL girls return in Abbey Spalla, Mia Deramo, Gabby Beinecke and Caitlyn Thompson (GK). Quinn Miller is another offensive key for the Lions.

Others to watch: Emily McKee was an all-state and All-WPIAL performer with 35 goals and 10 assists and she leads a Fox Chapel team that produced 102 goals in 24 games. … Playoff regulars Mars and Plum were semifinalists. Mars faces a slight rebuild offensively, while Plum has all-WPIAL pick Emily Grubich back. … Robert Morris commit Addison Orehowsky shores up the Mars defense. … Kendall Dydek will lead Moon, another perennial power. … Montour features Irelynn Hobbs and Kira Hobbs. … Thomas Jefferson could make some noise, while Oakland Catholic could have some offensive pop.

Team to beat: Quaker Valley ripped through the WPIAL postseason and made the PIAA semifinals before finishing at 19-3-2. The Quakers logged 14 shutouts and allowed only 11 goals. All-WPIAL players Annabel Miko and Ariana Bosh are back to power the Quakers’ bid at a repeat after they won their first title since 1992.

Others to watch: Runner-up Burrell only lost three seniors. The Bucs have beaten Mt. Pleasant in the playoffs in back-to-back years. … Could this finally be Mt. Pleasant’s year? All-state forward Morgan Gesinski (36 goals), a Robert Morris commit, will lead an experienced group that includes three All-WPIAL girls in Gesinski, Raygan Mizikar and goalie Laurel Rummel. … North Catholic and South Park were semifinal teams. North Catholic features Simone Sharpless (25 goals), a Western Michigan commit. Gianna Cardillo is back in net for South Park, which scored 103 goals. South Park lost five all-section players. … Freeport returns several key players, including Peyton Los and Camryn Woods, both All-WPIAL picks, and Alyssa Alcorn. … Deer Lakes is also in the mix with All-WPIAL girls Claire Cacurak and Brooke Cacurak returning. … Beaver has plenty of talent back after making the quarterfinals where it gave North Catholic a close game. … Yough is interesting, but still young, with five all-section players back.

Others to watch: Winchester Thurston, which plays in Springdale’s section, has six seniors to replace. … Sewickley Academy brings back All-WPIAL pick Emma Eannnarino and three all-section players. … Seton LaSalle, another semifinal team, has forward Sydney Morgan back. … Watch out for Bentworth, which features two All-WPIAL girls in Megan Keturakis and Madelyn Johns and six other all-section selections. … Brianna Casto leads Freedom, and Allie Emswiler is a top defender at Eden Christian. … Kolbi Rastoka and Rylei Rastoka are key players at Waynesburg. … Don’t discount Riverview, which has Mary Quinlan back.
