Trib HSSN girls basketball player of the week: Iyanna Wade

School: Clairton

Class: Junior

Position: Guard

What her coach says: “Scoring is easy for her,” Clairton coach and Iyanna’s father Carlton Wade said. “She’s not just a scorer, she’s a leader.”

#Earned: Wade hit 50 points in a game twice last year as a sophomore. On Wednesday, she scored 50 points in the Bears’ 78-12 section victory over Steel Valley. The next night, Wade exploded again, scoring 48 points in a 70-26 victory over Springdale. Those wins improved Clairton to 3-0 in Section 3-2A and 9-0 overall.

Background: Wade was fourth in scoring as a freshman two years ago, averaging 23.7 points per game. Last year, she led the WPIAL in scoring with 599 points with an average of 33.3 points per game.
