Trib HSSN girls basketball team of the week: Norwin Knights

Record: 2-0 in Section 1-6A, 9-3 overall

Last year: Norwin was co-section champion with North Allegheny at 9-1. The Knights finished 24-5 overall, losing in the WPIAL semifinals to eventual champion NA, 38-36. They then lost in the PIAA semifinals to Cedar Cliff, 55-47.

#Earned: The Knights tipped off the new year Tuesday with a big section victory over North Allegheny, 47-42. Norwin outscored NA, 19-4, in the second quarter. It was the first victory over the Tigers at North Allegheny for the Knights’ seniors. Two nights later, another big second quarter helped Norwin win at home over Butler, 58-26. The week ended with the Knights falling at home to Wheeling Park (W.Va.), 52-51.

Scoring stars: Against North Allegheny, senior Ava Kobus led the Knights with 15 points while senior Lauren Palangio added 13. In the win over Butler, senior Kendall Berger led the way for Norwin with 14 points while Kobus scored 10. In the one-point loss to Wheeling Park, Palangio scored a team-high 19 points.
