The transition from the district postseason to the state playoffs was a rough one for the top girls basketball teams across Pennsylvania.

Ten teams in all, with every class affected, fell out of the Trib HSSN girls basketball state rankings this past week, done in by district semifinals or championship losses.

These 10 teams — Red Lion, Middletown, Blackhawk, Lancaster Catholic, Shady Side Academy, River Valley, Hughesville, Wilmington, Neshannock and Clairton — all lost their spot in the state rankings for now, but their safety net is they are all participating in the upcoming Road to Hershey.

These 10 teams bring confidence into the state playoffs and a spot in the Top 5 with most coming off district title runs including Archbishop Carroll, Archbishop Wood, Oakland Catholic, Audenried Charter, Northwestern, Imhotep Charter, Camp Hill Trinity, Berlin-Brothersvalley, Bishop McCort and Bishop Carroll.

A pair of District 7 teams lost their spot at the head of the class with South Fayette replaced by York Suburban in 5A and Loyalsock Township taking over for Shady Side Academy in 3A.

There were no changes at No. 1 in the other four classes as Hazleton in 6A, Scranton Prep in 4A, Kennedy Catholic in 2A and Bishop Guilfoyle in A remaining on top.

The PIAA state playoffs are set to tip off with first round action Friday and Saturday.
