The 2025 high school football season is underway and while zero means nothing, Week Zero around the state was very meaningful.
So much that four teams already lost their grip on a Trib HSSN Top 5 state rankings spot before Week 1 takes place.
The exits of Garnet Valley, Danville, Scranton Prep and Central Clarion opened the door for Chester, Notre Dame-Green Pond, Penn Cambria and Williams Valley to join the elite 30 heading into the second weekend of the season.
And what a weekend with four games matching state-ranked teams against each other.
Two of those battles are in the WPIAL with Class 6A No. 4 Central Catholic hosting 5A No. 1 Pine-Richland and 5A No. 4 Peters Township visiting 4A No. 3 McKeesport.
The other two showdowns are 6A No. 3 Harrisburg home to 5A No. 2 Bishop McDevitt in District 3 and 2A No. 2 Richland traveling to Class A No. 1 Bishop Guilfoyle Academy in District 6.
Two of the six top-ranked teams from our preseason rankings lost in Week Zero. While Bishop McDevitt dropped to No. 2 in 5A, St. Joe’s Prep remains on top in 6A.
The new team at No. 1 is Pine-Richland in 5A while the others remain the same, including Monsignor Bonner-Archbishop Prendergast in 4A, Northwestern Lehigh in 3A, Troy in 2A and Bishop Guilfoyle Academy in A.
Here are the latest Trib HSSN Top 5 rankings in each of the six classifications. Teams are listed with overall record, last week’s ranking and district.
