The elite teams across the state in high school football continued to flex their muscles for a second straight week, flirting with perfection.

The teams from last week’s Trib HSSN rankings were a combined 29-1, with the lone loss coming in a battle of top-ranked teams in District 12 when Class 6A No. 1 LaSalle College knocked off 4A top-ranked Monsignor Bonner-Archbishop Prendergast.

Not only are the teams in the Top 5 continuing to win in October, they are winning big.

The total final scores of the 29 ranked teams that won last week was 1,368-249, which averages to a score of 47-8.

Monsignor Bonner-Archbishop Prendergast remains on top in 4A despite losing to Class 6A No. 1 LaSalle College in Week 7.

The other top-ranked teams remain unchanged with Bishop McDevitt in 5A, Northwestern Lehigh in 3A, Troy in 2A and Bishop Guilfoyle in A.

Will the Top 5 teams continue to rock in October?

There is another head-to-head matchup for Week 8 as No. 2 Aliquippa visits No. 4 Montour in a WPIAL Class 4A showdown Friday.
