Week 1 turned out to be a tough week for teams ranked No.1

In a week filled with Top 5 showdowns, more than half of the top-ranked teams from last week’s Trib HSSN state rankings were knocked off.

For a second straight week, Class 6A power St. Joseph’s Prep lost to an out-of-state team, as did the top-ranked team in 2A, Troy.

Pine-Richland in 5A and Bishop Guilfoyle Academy in Class A lost to state-ranked teams from higher classifications.

All four slipped out of the lead chair for now, replaced by LaSalle College in 6A, Peters Township in 5A, Richland in 4A and Fort Cherry in A.

The two other top-ranked teams from a week ago remain at No. 1: Monsignor Bonner-Archbishop Prendergast in 4A and Northwestern Lehigh in 3A.

While there was all kinds of commotion at the top of the rankings, just about everybody else took care of business in Week 1, with only Lampeter-Straburg and McKeesport falling out of the Top 5 in Class 4A.

Here are the latest Trib HSSN rankings in each of the six classifications. Teams are listed with overall record, last week’s ranking and district.
