The previous few weeks were active when it comes to the PIAA Top 5, but all was quiet in Week 4 as the elite across the state took care of business.
The 30 teams from last week’s Trib HSSN rankings were a combined 27-3 this past weekend with only one team dropping out of the Top 5.
Garnet Valley lost to Strath Haven in District 1, dropping the Jaguars from the Class 5A rankings. That opened the door for the undefeated Panthers to join the 5A Fab 5.
Roman Catholic lost to Maryland powerhouse DeMatha Catholic but remained No. 2 in 5A, while Aliquippa saw a 16-game winning streak ended by Penn Hills, dropping the Quips from No. 1 to No. 2 in 4A.
While Monsignor Bonner-Archbishop Prendergast takes over the top spot in 4A, the rest of the top-ranked teams remained intact from last week with St. Joe’s Prep in 6A, Peters Township in 5A, Northwestern Lehigh in 3A, Troy in 2A and Bishop Guilfoyle in A remaining at No. 1.
There are two head-to-head matchups this weekend between state ranked teams.
