As we head toward mid-April, it would be nice to say the action on the softball diamonds is heating up as much as the mercury.

Yes, that would be nice.

However, while the weather continues to be funky, the top softball teams in the state keep plugging away in the brisk air as the regular season nears the midway point.

Five teams were bumped out of the Trib HSSN state softball rankings from last week with two of them coming from Class 5A.

The teams that have exited for now are Northern York and Thomas Jefferson from 5A, Northern Lebanon from 4A, South Williamsport from 2A and DuBois Central Catholic in Class A.

They have been replaced by Greencastle-Antrim, North Pocono, Eastern Lebanon County, Cochranton and Montgomery, respectively.

The six top-ranked teams remained the same from last week with Seneca Valley in 6A, Marple Newtown in 5A, Blue Mountain in 4A, Sharon in 3A, Neshannock in 2A and Carmichaels in A.
